The Waynflete Singers continue their celebration of returning to live concerts with a performance of Bach's St John Passion. The story of Christ's Passion is told in superbly dramatic fashion, with fewer reflective moments than in the St Matthew Passion, but with a sense of urgency that drives the story and the music along. Bach's flair for musical imagery is second to none and he excels himself in this work.
A team of outstanding soloists is led by James Gilchrist as the Evangelist and Matthew Brook as Jesus. Rowan Pierce, David Allsopp, Robert Murray and Ashley Riches complete the line-up and are accompanied by acclaimed period-instrument ensemble Florilegium under the baton of the Choir's Music Director Andrew Lumsden.
