A Summer Romance

  • New Hall 34 College Walk, Winchester, SO23 9NF UK (map)

Our July concert, A Summer Romance, features music with four hands at the piano - Constant Lambert’s sparkling Rio Grande, together with Brahms’ gorgeous Liebeslieder Waltzes and Bernstein’s ever-popular West Side Story Suite.

We are delighted to be welcoming back David Owen Norris, well known to BBC Radio 3 listeners and also former presenter of BBC2 Chord of the Week programme, a popular feature of the Proms for six years.
He will be joining our own accompanist George Castle to provide the two-piano accompaniment of the Rio Grande, together with percussion . With musical fireworks a-plenty,  the double piano accompaniment is a brilliant showpiece of dazzling virtuosity and bravura, combining jazzy syncopation, ragtime and Brazilian influences.
Brahms' romantic Liebeslieder Waltzes will similarly be accompanied by both pianists, this time four hands at one piano. The West Side Story choral suite, with its iconic tunes such as 'Tonight',  'America' and 'Somewhere' will draw the evening to a close.
As before at New Hall, we will follow the concert with drinks in the delightful Warden’s Garden.

Andrew Lumsden, director of the  Waynflete Singers will conduct the proceedings.

Tickets on sale through Eventbrite via the link below.

Cost £30.00 (£10.00 for under 18s and students) to include a post-concert drink in the garden.

We very much hope to see you at New Hall.
