More about this concert:
Elgar’s Coronation Ode was written in 1902 for the coronation of Edward VII to a text by Arthur Benson, who provided the words ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ to make a rousing climax to the work. Just over fifty years later, Walton’s brilliant Coronation Te Deum was first sung in Westminster Abbey at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Continuing the coronation theme, Elgar’s ‘O hearken Thou’, composed for the Coronation of King George V in 1911.
This concert will certainly celebrate some glorious music, with thrilling sounds and plenty of ‘pomp and circumstance’.
