The papers have been circulated by email and are also on the members’ section of the website under AGM 2025. Please print off or access online during the meeting.
Please send apologies to: kate.spencer15@gmail.com
Nominations for membership of then Committee will be greatly received. Please fill in the form and return to Daniel or Kate on Thursday before the meeting.
Also note that we are now rehearsing the Messiah, so don’t forget your copies.
2. Waynflete Christmas Cards
You may remember that we had some gorgeous Christmas cards produced last year as a fundraiser for the choir. We still have quite a few packs available, and they will be on sale at the AGM on November 6th, £5.00 for a pack of 6. Payment by card please.
3. Tickets for the Messiah
OK, so we are now down to the last 40 tickets in the Nave which is brilliant but it’s not a total sell out…..Also note that the cathedral may open up more seats in the North and South aisles so there is still more work to do.
4. Gold Scarves and Handkerchiefs
We will be wearing these at the December concert. Most of you have them but if you lost them or if you’re new and haven’t yet got them then could you please let your part rep know so that Sarah can order some more.
5. Carol Singing : December 9th - A message from Daniel Benton, our Chairman (a reminder)
There will be no Wayns carol singing this year at the Cathedral Christmas Market, as there appears to be no live music stage. However, for those who are profoundly disappointed not to have the opportunity to be conducted by me, whilst juggling green books in the freezing open air, I have another opportunity for you. As most of you know, I chair a local charity called the Hampshire Medical Fund, which raises money to buy kit for the local hospitals. I have a slot at the Buttercross on December 9th from 11am to 1pm to sing carols to raise money for HMF and so need a choir. The plan would be to sing for 2 hours and then repair to a nearby pub to get our voices back on my card. If you are able / interested could I ask you to email me daniel.benton@btinternet.com , and I will see if I can get a balanced group together ?
Thanks, Daniel
6. An Invitation to Sing Carols at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital on Tuesday 16th December
I have received a letter asking if some of us would like to sing carols at the RHCH on Tuesday 16th December. Please read the attached if you are interested and contact Ruth Midcalf, the Chaplain, directly.
7. Help Needed for Cathedral Lunchtime Concerts
The cathedral runs a series of lunch time chamber concerts on Tuesdays. The concerts run from 1.15 - 2pm and are held in the Lady Chapel at the far back of the building.
We are very short of stewards. This task mainly involves handing out programmes, stopping late people from barging in during the music, and preventing people from photographing the performers. At the end we collect donations and offer the card machine for those who want to pay by card.
There are usually three of us on duty at each concert.
It is a very nice job and you get a free visit to the cathedral and a free concert as well!
If you think you might like to do this please contact Bex Willis [bex.willis@winchester-cathedral.org.uk].”
