January 2024 New Year update

Welcome to 2024.  Thanks to all who supported us and came to our concerts last year. We had a busy and varied year, which started with two Coronation-themed events : our concert in March in Winchester Cathedral and our Come and Sing in June.  In October we performed  the Brahms German Requiem at Christchurch Priory and we finished the year with a wonderful St. Nicholas-themed concert in the Cathedral.   We have been lucky to continue to work with top orchestras and soloists, as well as out brilliant director, Andy Lumsden.

2024 will be another varied year.  Our concert on March 9th, “Baroque Masterpieces”, will focus on Bach and Handel.  We will be singing the Bach Magnificat in D and Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum, supported by Florilegium and a wonderful set of soloists.  In addition Florilegium will be playing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and supporting our repetiteur and occasional conductor George Castle in the Handel organ concerto “The Cuckoo and the Nightingale”.  Masterpieces indeed.

Our summer concert on July 6th will be a return to New Hall at Winchester College.  The programme will be Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, Lambert’s Rio Grande and Bernstein’s West Side Story Suite.  We are delighted to be welcoming David Owen-Norris, who will be joining George Castle to prove the two-piano accompaniment.  As before, we will follow the concert with drinks in the Warden’s Garden.

Finally our Christmas concert  on December 7th will be Beethoven’s Mass in C, followed by a selection of Christmas numbers both for choir and audience.

And as a trailer for 2025, we are planning to perform the Verdi Requiem with the BSO (and supported by members of the BSC) on April 4th 2025.  It should be a fantastic concerts and will certainly be loud !

You can find more details of all of these concerts on the website.  Thank you in advance for coming to support us.
